Psoriasis.
What causes psoriasis?
Scientist have not yet found the complete answers to that question.
It has nothing to do with poor skin care or hygiene. It is NOT contagious.
The appearance of psoriasis flare-up may be triggered by serious throat infection, medication, heavy drinking or severe stress.
It can also be triggered by trauma to the skin such as a surgical scar or scratch.
What is psoriasis?
Psoriasis is relatively, non-contagious skin condition. The appearance of psoriasis is the result of skin cells renewing themselves faster than normal skin cells.
Skin affected by psoriasis produce new cells more than four times as quickly as normal skin.Psoriasis appears on the scalp, elbow and knees but may also affect other areas such as the nails.
What can be done for psoriasis?
There is no cure. However lifestyle management can help and there is a range of products which may help to relive the symptoms.
The choice of treatment depends on the type and severity of psoriasis and may change as new treatment become available from time to time.
The key to success is using the appropriate treatment as prescribed by your doctor.Prescription treatments have been scientifically studied.
Some simple advice applies to everyone who have psoriasis always keep your skin well moisturised.
Moisturising helps the skin from becoming very dry and scaly.
Your doctor is the best person to talk to about your skin.
You see i have psoriasis and have had it for the past 27 years, and i still suffer with it.But with the appropriate treatment i suffer less thanks to my family doctor.
This is just some help and advice but yet i have had a happy and fulfilling live with psoriasis.
My chiropractor who i see every month.
The gentle Chiropractic approach is often helpful.Spinal adjustments stimulate the sensors in the muscles and spinal joints that deal with position sense and movement.
The good news is that with appropriate Chiropractic care and advice most of these problems will settle and you can return to your chosen activity.
When these sensors are activated the nerves and parts of the brain that process messages of pain become quieter and less likely to fire. The Volume of pain is being turned down.
Attention to posture is also important as it influences a person’s mood and how well they are able to cope with pain.
In the past few months i have found them to be very good they set exercises that help prevent overuse injuries.
During my visit i came across a very good article on exercise helps.
No one knows why exercise helps and there are many possible explanations.
Exercise improves mood.It also provides the opportunity for body to move in different ways, which influences the function of the brain and the nervous system and how pain is processed.
Different movements and deeper breathing can influence soft tissue healing.
And then there is the social benefit where exercise provides a regular catch-up time with friends.
Whatever the explanation our bodies are healthier when we move, and having regular exercise routine is important for balanced lifestyle.
Imagine suffering terrible pains with no signs of injury?.
What do you do with a faulty fire alarm? Simple, turn it off the power and wait until the alarm is repaired.
Now what do you do if the alarm bells are inside you; causing stiff muscles and leaving you exhausted?
That is what happens to people who have ‘fibromyalgia’ ( Sometimes called fibrositis) deal with: severe disabling aches and pains often without a mark of injury.
In years gone by people with fibromyalgia often had a hard time convincing others that their symptoms were real. That has changed since scientists have learnt more about the nervous system. It is now well understood that the symptoms of fibromyalgia-muscle and soft tissue discomfort, tiredness and stiffness-are common and possibly the major reason why some people in our community experience more pain than others. It is basically a faulty overly sensitive pain system that sends and amplifies all sorts of misleading messages about tissue all sorts of misleading, messages about tissue damage to the brain.
Sometimes the pain message might only effect one part of your body. For instance,an elbow or wrist might be affected. In other people it can affect the whole body and causes headaches, sleep disturbances, bowel problems and disturbed concentration.
It’s a worldwide condition and may vary in severity form very mild and occasional to severe and persistent.
The symptoms are often vague and share common features with other illnesses like chronic fatigue syndrome.
Unfortunately there is no agreed test to diagnose Fibromyalgia.Instead the diagnose is based on the description of the symptoms, ruling out other known problems, and finding areas of unusual tenderness on the body.
There is no specific treatment but there are a number of approaches that may help.
Light regular exercise-starting with simple walking-and attention to leading a healthy lifestyle i.e.regular meals, healthy simple diet, fresh air,and having an established bed/sleep routine is also very important.Sometimes certain medication may be of assistance.
If you have issues with pain ask your Doctor for their advice;there are a number of options that may help you switch off and better manage the unwanted discomfort.
